Ballpoint pen, freehand and cross hatching

Hate the way my ink drawings look after scanning. Kills a lot of the subtler shades and makes em look like shit (which they usually don't when in hand)- not sure what I'm doing wrong on that front.

Came across a couple pens a month or so ago, got this and 'popRocks' done before they died. Still hunting for viable replacements...
